Fish - Species

Fly Fishing TaimenTaimen are long lived and unlike their relatives, the salmon, they do not migrate to the ocean, and don't die after the spawn, thus contributing to their long life. To protect taimen it is essential to practice catch and release fishing. Their prey of choice seems to increase in size as the fish themselves get larger, prompting the local inhabitants, who call Taimen “river wolf”, to tie on small ducks and large rodents such as prairie dogs. When locals do fish, it is often in this manner with a hand line and a single hook.
