Public Waters and The Red River Ranch
The fly-fishing opportunities of southern Utah are numerous and diverse to say the least. Our area, often called "canyon country," includes the famous Boulder Mountains (home of the Utah state record brook and tiger trout), Thousand Lake Mountain, Fish Lake Mountain, Markagunt Plateau, and many other geographical areas of interest, all of which border one of the many southern Utah National Parks. The Fremont River, Sevier River, Boulder Creek, Panguitch Creek, and countless other hidden small streams are at our doorstep. Have you ever heard of a tiger trout?
Boulder Mountain and its intriguing sub-alpine lakes are a short driving distance from the Red River Ranch private property. Already producing the state record tiger trout as well as the state record brook trout, many are of the opinion that the new state record fish are simply waiting to be caught. Each individual lake presents its own intrigue, and in totality Boulder Mountain is simply breathtaking. Many of the lakes are accessible from main roadways, but the best fishing is often found among the lakes that require either ATV’s or horses to access, or good old fashion hiking boots. From atop Boulder Mountain, anglers are treated with panoramic views of the vermillion red rock country including Capitol Reef National Park, the Water Pocket Fold, Escalante National Monument, and the majestic Henry Mountains. In addition to the plethora of natural lakes there are also many very productive wild trout streams, offering anglers a diverse selection of waters to fish, as well as opportunities to utilize a wide range of angling tactics for a variety of trout species. The guides of Red River Outfitters are proficient on these lakes and streams, and offer both ATV rentals and horseback trips for more convenient access.
Red River Outfitters has been fishing these waters for many years and would love to show you why our waters are some of the finest. We are fortunate to have a wide variety of water types for all skill levels of fly-anglers. Experience prolific trico hatches on the Fremont River or large terrestrials on small mountain streams.
