How to Fish It
A fiddly tie — but the V-wing is what makes it right. If sippers ignore standard midge patterns, this is what to try.
When to Use
Winter midge hatches on tailwaters. Summer midges on pressured water.
History & Lore
The Monster Midge came from a trip Devin Olsen took to visit Pablo in Spain. Pablo was fishing a simple midge pattern, but Devin recognized the same V-wing style he had seen on the Monster Dry. He dubbed this one the Monster Midge for the wing-style match. The fly is incredibly effective on tough sippers in flat water. Devin also ties it with the CDC wings reversed in a shuttlecock configuration — both styles work.
