Mount Falcon Estate is one of Ireland's finest country house hotels with a dedicated salmon fishing program, set on a hundred-acre estate overlooking the River Moy in County Mayo. The estate holds private salmon fishing on both banks of the Moy, offering guests exclusive access to some of the river's most productive beats during the peak salmon season. The combination of a historic Georgian manor house, award-winning cuisine featuring locally sourced ingredients, and immediate access to Ireland's premier salmon river creates an experience that seamlessly blends sporting tradition with country house luxury.
The fishing at Mount Falcon is managed by an experienced team of ghillies who know the Moy intimately, from the lies where spring salmon hold in the deep pools to the gravel runs where grilse stack up in July and August. Guests fish with single-handed or double-handed rods depending on the beat and conditions, with wet fly, nymph, and dry fly methods all employed throughout the season. The estate also arranges fishing on nearby Lough Conn for wild brown trout, providing an alternative for days when the river is high or when guests want to experience the traditional Irish art of lough-style fishing from a drifting boat.
Beyond fishing, Mount Falcon offers woodland walks, falconry experiences, an outdoor hot tub, and a Kitchen Garden restaurant that has earned a reputation as one of the finest dining experiences in the west of Ireland. The estate is family-friendly and accommodates non-fishing partners with activities and spa facilities.
“Another fantastic New Year in this wonderful Hotel. My family along with two other families arrived in Mount Falcon on Dec 30th to relax after Christmas and enjoy the New Years Ball. ||||From outset we felt extremely welcomed, well looked …”
“We arrived today a our first impression was Wow! |The check in process was quick and efficient. We decided to walk the grounds as bags were sorted and deliver to rooms. Trails could become more clearly marked but they were beautiful. |We …”
“On approach the house looks a little disappointing as the formal frontage cannot be seen and instead you drive towards the modern rear extension which looms somewhat ahead. However, once out of the car and we did find the picturesque building promised in the advertising. The staff were lovely, Catherine in the front desk could not have been warmer. Our room was huge although disappointingly it was in the modern extension that I had not wanted. The furniture gave the feel of an old building so not all was lost. Bathroom enormous and water pressure fantastic. The bed was vast with nice bed linen, although pillows could have been softer. Tea, coffee and the most delicious homemade biscuits were also in the room. The Spa was lovely. The young lady was friendly and helpful; even when we arrived 15 mins before closing to warm up after being out in the rain (thank you). Breakfast was amazing with the best granola I’ve ever eaten! It looked so good I broke my never eat granola whilst staying in a hotel rule. It was served in a lovely old restaurant in the hotel and was perfect. Now we come to the marquee for dinner. Sorry, Mount Falcon, but I just cannot get over this. I had my reservations while booking (excuse the pun) and I was not wrong. It has to be said the marquee was beautiful and not cold despite the howling wind and rain outside, but it was still a marquee. Our stay was at the end of the season, the hotel was was quiet and the marquee even more so. The first evening we were probably one of 30 in a marquee that must hold around 150 people. On the second night we were alone! There was live music but think more 1980s cabaret and less historic Ireland! Needless to say the intimate, romantic weekend planned was replaced by an amusing, silly one. The waiting staff was just the right degree of attentive, helpful, and lovely. The food was truly delicious. I found the lobster a little overpriced but not disappointing and the Château Brianne couldn’t have been better. The vegetables were delicious and reasonable portions although I was rather surprised that the (out of place) garlic mushrooms came in a crispy crumb! Sadly the marquee was a deal breaker and spoilt the intimate weekend away we sought. I would have been disappointed but the warn staff and excellent food did go along way to make up for it.”
