Utah · freestone · Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Bonneville Cutthroat Trout
The Logan River flows through Logan Canyon in northern Utah's Cache Valley — one of the state's most underrated trout fisheries and arguably its most scenic drive. Fed by high-elevation springs and canyon tributaries, the Logan maintains cold water temperatures year-round, sustaining a quality population of brown and rainbow trout in water that's far more accessible than its remoteness might suggest. US-89 follows the river through much of the canyon, giving anglers easy roadside access to miles of quality water without a long hike. The river is regulated as a trophy fishery in its most productive canyon section, with slot limits protecting larger fish. The canyon section from Wood Camp to Tony Grove Road holds the densest fish population, with brown trout averaging 14 to 18 inches in classic riffle-run-pool sequences. Hatches follow the standard Rocky Mountain calendar — BWOs in spring, PMDs and caddis through summer, and terrestrials in August and September making for excellent late-season dry-fly fishing.
