About

Lakestream Fly Shop in Sandpoint, Idaho occupies one of the most underappreciated fly fishing positions in the American West — at the confluence of north Idaho's vast and varied water. Lake Pend Oreille, one of the deepest lakes in the country, anchors the region and produces trophy bull trout, large rainbows, and the famed Gerrard strain of Kamloops rainbow that run massive. To the east, the Clark Fork River delivers crystalline flows through wild country. To the south, the St. Joe River winds through cathedral cedar groves and produces some of the most consistent wild west-slope cutthroat fishing in Idaho. The shop was built by and for anglers who appreciate technical fishing in spectacular, crowd-free settings.

Lakestream's staff has guided these waters for decades and offers float and wading trips covering the lower Clark Fork, the St. Joe, and select stretches of the Coeur d'Alene River drainage. The shop stocks a full line of rods, reels, waders, and apparel alongside a fly selection calibrated to the insects and baitfish that matter in north Idaho's cold, clear rivers and lakes. Streamer selection is particularly strong — bull trout and large lake-run rainbows demand serious hardware — and the tying materials department is well-equipped for the patient angler who ties their own. For anglers willing to explore beyond the famous rivers of the south, Lakestream opens a door to some of the most remarkable and lightly pressured fishing in the Rocky Mountain West.

What Anglers Say

“Lakestream is the real deal. I've been chasing bull trout on the Clark Fork for years and the staff here understand this fishery on a level I've rarely encountered. They pointed me toward water I'd never found on my own and tied me up with streamers that were dialed in for the conditions. This shop is the reason I keep coming back to Sandpoint.”

Paul G.

“Did a guided trip on the St. Joe River with Lakestream — it was everything I hoped it would be. Wild west-slope cutthroat rising to dry flies under a canopy of old-growth cedar. Our guide was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about protecting the river. The shop itself is beautifully stocked. Highly recommend for anyone in north Idaho.”

Sarah W.

“Wandered in before a trip to Lake Pend Oreille and left loaded with exactly the right gear and intel. The staff know every inch of this region — lake, rivers, back-country streams. I ended up landing the largest rainbow of my life that afternoon following their advice. This shop earns every star.”
