Fishing and possession open all year. 15-inch minimum on all trout and salmon. Daily possession 5 combined, no more than 3 fish 15 inches or greater. Michigan fishing license required. Verify the 2026 digest and Inland Trout and Salmon map for water above M-55.
The East Branch Au Gres held a 12-mile historic Blue Ribbon trout reach in Iosco County, from the Hale Creek and Smith Creek junction to Whittemore Road. Michigan DNR no longer keeps an active Blue Ribbon list. Inland trout water is typed 1 through 4 now. The 2026 digest lists East Branch Au Gres River (Whitney Drain) as Type 3 from M-55 downstream to Saginaw Bay.
