Christopher Creek is a small Rim tributary of Tonto Creek that runs past the community of Christopher Creek, east of Payson on State Route 260. It is short, friendly water close to the campgrounds, which makes it a good place for kids and first-time fly anglers.
Arizona Game and Fish stocks rainbow trout here through the summer, and the creek is on the department's hatchery Gila trout list. Statewide trout limits apply.
Christopher Creek and Sharp Creek campgrounds on the Tonto National Forest put you within walking distance of the water. By late summer the creek runs low and warm. AZGFD advises against fishing water over 67 to 68 degrees, so go early in the day.
