Arizona fishing license required for anglers 10 and older. Rules cite Arizona Game and Fish Commission Order 40 (2025-26 regulations). Unless a special regulation applies, the statewide limit is four trout per day in any combination, and roundtail chub are catch and release only. East Clear Creek drains north off the Mogollon Rim toward the Little Colorado River in a deep pine and sandstone canyon on the Coconino National Forest. Upstream of C.C. Cragin Reservoir it is remote water, mostly reached on foot from forest roads off State Route 87.
Arizona Game and Fish manages the reach from Leonard Canyon down to C.C. Cragin as a sport fishery for self-sustaining wild rainbow trout. The same water is managed for native roundtail chub, Little Colorado spinedace, speckled dace, bluehead sucker, and Little Colorado sucker. Roundtail chub are catch and release only statewide. Handle every native fish gently and get it back in the water fast.
Statewide trout limits apply. The canyon holds an enormous crayfish population, so a crayfish pattern belongs in the box. Rock Crossing Campground on the C.C. Cragin shoreline is the developed base for the area.
