The Fence River held a 12-mile historic Blue Ribbon trout reach in Iron County from the East Branch junction to T45N R13W Sec. 35. Michigan DNR no longer keeps an active Blue Ribbon list. Inland trout water is typed 1 through 4 now.
This is a Paint River tributary in the Ottawa National Forest. Brook trout hold the branches. Named public road crossings sit at North Fence River Road on both the West Branch and East Branch near Amasa, and at Fence River Road near Witch Lake.
