Haigler Creek flows west below the Mogollon Rim through the Tonto National Forest between Young and Tonto Creek. It is reached on unpaved Forest Roads 200 and 291.
Arizona Game and Fish manages the creek in three parts. The upper section, from Colcord Canyon down to Gillette Ranch, holds wild rainbow trout. From Gillette Ranch down to a natural waterfall below Alderwood is an intensive-use rainbow trout fishery, stocked from spring through summer. Below the falls to Tonto Creek, the focus is native Gila trout. Statewide trout limits apply throughout.
Haigler Canyon Campground has 14 free sites and two day-use picnic areas right on the creek. Four-wheel drive or chains may be needed after rain or snow. In hot years, warm water can cut summer stocking short, so check the latest AZGFD report before you go.
