Wyoming fishing license required. Wyoming Game and Fish Department blue ribbon trout stream designation on portions of this drainage. Much of the lower river runs through private ranch land; use bridge crossings, county road right-of-way, and other public access points.
The New Fork River begins at New Fork Lakes in the Wind River Range and flows through Sublette County past Pinedale and Boulder before joining the Green River. Wyoming Game and Fish Department manages long stretches of this drainage as blue ribbon trout water.
Brown trout, rainbow trout, and Snake River cutthroat hold in slow meadow bends and deeper runs, giving the river a spring-creek character in its middle reaches near Pinedale. USGS gauges track flow from above Pine Creek down through Boulder and near Big Piney.
Ranch land borders much of the lower river; use bridge crossings and other public access. The upper river near the lakes is colder and holds more cutthroat, while the lower reaches near Boulder warm earlier and fish well into early fall.
