Arizona fishing license required for anglers 10 and older. Rules cite Arizona Game and Fish Commission Order 40 (2025-26 regulations). Unless a special regulation applies, the statewide limit is four trout per day in any combination, and roundtail chub are catch and release only. From the State Route 89A bridge at Slide Rock State Park upstream to the Sterling Springs Hatchery property line, including West Fork Oak Creek: catch and release only for trout, artificial fly and lure only, barbless hooks only. Below Slide Rock, statewide trout limits apply. Smallmouth and largemouth bass and channel and flathead catfish are unlimited. Live baitfish may not be used in Coconino County.

Oak Creek runs through the red rock canyon north of Sedona, with State Route 89A following the water most of the way up to Pine Flat. It is stocked with rainbow trout. Arizona Game and Fish also lists Oak Creek as a hatchery Gila trout water.
The canyon carries two sets of rules. From the Slide Rock State Park bridge upstream to the Sterling Springs Hatchery property line, trout are catch and release only on artificial flies and lures with barbless hooks. Below Slide Rock, statewide limits apply. Live baitfish are not allowed anywhere in Coconino County.
Summer is the hard season. AZGFD reported flows in the low 30s cfs and water from 67 to 71 degrees in mid-July 2026, so fish early and carry a thermometer. Spring and fall are kinder. Picnic sites like Grasshopper Point, Slide Rock, Halfway, and Banjo Bill sit right on the creek, and forest campgrounds line the upper canyon.
