West Fork Oak Creek is a narrow sandstone canyon that joins Oak Creek at Call of the Canyon, about nine and a half miles north of Sedona. West Fork Trail No. 108 follows it for an easy first three miles. Past that it turns into a rugged 14-mile wilderness route of wading and boulder hopping.
Arizona Game and Fish stocked Gila trout here in October 2015 and manages the fork as a recreational Gila trout stream, with more fish added when the hatchery has surplus. Desert sucker and speckled dace are the native fish alongside them. Every trout goes back. The fork is catch and release only on artificial flies and lures with barbless hooks.
The trailhead and Call of the Canyon picnic area are run by a concessionaire and charge a fee. Parking fills early on busy days. The West Fork watershed burned in the 2026 Pocket Fire, and the Forest Service kept the trail closed until October 1, 2026, so check Coconino National Forest notices before you go.
