Woods Canyon Creek starts at the dam of Woods Canyon Lake, the busiest of the Rim Lakes on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. From there it runs north through a forested canyon on top of the Mogollon Rim. Lower down it meets Willow Springs Canyon, and together they form Chevelon Canyon.
It is small, high-country water. Statewide trout limits apply on the creek. Woods Canyon Lake has unlimited bass and catfish, and AZGFD stocks the lake through the summer. Downstream, the Chevelon Canyon reach below the Woods Canyon and Willow Springs confluence is managed as a trophy wild brown and rainbow trout fishery under a two-trout, flies and lures only rule.
Spillway Campground sits right at the lake outlet.
