Wyoming Game and Fish lists the Shoshone near Cody as Blue Ribbon water, more than 600 pounds of trout per mile. The river leaves Buffalo Bill Reservoir west of Cody, runs through town, and continues toward Lovell. This row is the main stem. The North Fork above the reservoir is a separate river.

Brown trout, rainbow trout, and Snake River cutthroat hold the Cody reach. WGFD public access on this corridor includes North Cody, Dillmon, Shoshone Riverway, and Sulphur Creek. Live USGS 06285100 tracks the main stem near Lovell. The historic gauge just below Buffalo Bill Dam (06282000) is not transmitting.
