West Clear Creek runs west off the Mogollon Rim through a deep canyon toward Camp Verde, and most of it sits inside the West Clear Creek Wilderness. This is hike-in water.
The lower creek is warm water in summer. AZGFD measured 74 to 79 degrees in mid-July 2026, when smallmouth bass were the main event. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are unlimited harvest. Roundtail chub are native here and must be released unharmed. Trout are under the statewide four-fish limit.
The Bull Pen area is the lower entry, and West Clear Creek Trail No. 17 starts close by. Spring and fall are the comfortable months. Avoid the narrows when monsoon storms are building upstream.
