The Price River begins as Fish Creek above Scofield Reservoir, then takes the Price River name below Scofield Dam. This tailwater reach, sometimes called Lower Fish Creek by anglers who fish it as a continuation of the water upstream, holds rainbow and brown trout in cold, dam-released flows through a high mountain valley in Carbon County.
Highway 96 follows the river below the dam, giving easy roadside access. Flows here stay cold and stable through summer thanks to the reservoir release, unlike many freestone streams nearby that warm and drop through the season.
