Willow Springs Canyon Creek runs north from Willow Springs Lake on top of the Mogollon Rim, east of Woods Canyon Lake on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Below the lake the canyon runs north to meet Woods Canyon and form Chevelon Canyon.
Arizona Game and Fish manages the canyon from Willow Springs Lake down to the Woods Canyon confluence for wild brook trout, brown trout, and tiger trout, all documented as naturally occurring. No stocking supports them. It is one of the few places in Arizona to catch a brook trout for the Arizona Wild Trout Challenge. Speckled dace are the native fish here.
Statewide trout limits apply in the canyon. Once you cross into Chevelon Creek below the confluence, the limit drops to two trout and you may use artificial flies and lures only. The trailhead and Sinkhole Campground near the lake are the starting points.
