Western Rivers Flyfisher is Utah's most storied fly shop — a Sugar House institution since 1986 that has spent nearly four decades at the center of the state's fly fishing culture. Located on 900 South in Salt Lake City, the shop serves as de facto headquarters for Utah's remarkable diversity of trout water: the Green River tailwater below Flaming Gorge, the Provo River below Deer Creek, the Weber River, the Logan River, and the high-altitude cutthroat lakes of the Uinta Mountains. No other shop in the state bridges as many rivers with as consistent a depth of expertise.
The retail operation is comprehensive and unapologetically premium — Winston, Scott, Simms, Patagonia, Hatch, and Hardy share floor space with an extensive fly selection curated for each specific water system. The guide service runs trips across the full spectrum of Utah's fisheries, with particular strength on the Green River tailwater at Dutch John and the Provo River corridor. Western Rivers also runs an international travel program, booking hosted fly-in adventures from Patagonia to Iceland at no additional fee to clients. Over 35 years, the shop has built a reputation that transcends retail: it's a clubhouse, a classroom, and a first stop before any serious Utah fly fishing expedition.

“I've shopped at a lot of fly shops across the country and Western Rivers sets the standard. The staff's knowledge of Utah rivers is encyclopedic — my pre-trip consultation for a Green River float was so detailed that I felt like I'd already guided the river. We hit a tremendous Baetis hatch on A section and landed a 22-inch rainbow on a size 20 CDC Transitional Dun. The rod and reel selection is outstanding.”
“Booked a guided Provo River trip through Western Rivers and the guide was one of the best I've fished with — calm, precise, and completely dialed in to Provo-specific techniques. He had me fishing a Zebra Midge dropper below a Cranefly Larva in a seam I would never have identified from the bank, and we moved fish consistently for four hours. The shop's fly selection for Utah tailwaters is unlike anything else in the state.”
“Walked in with questions about a self-guided Weber River trip and left with a complete education. The staff spent 20 minutes with me on water reading, seasonal access, and the specific midge patterns that were producing that week. No sales pressure whatsoever. I ended up buying a modest setup and had a brilliant day. Western Rivers has been doing this the right way since before I was old enough to fish.”
